DRIVEN TO SERVE
I chose to live and run a Pediatric dental practice in Bountiful 37 years ago. Karen and I raised our children here and now watch 11 grandchildren thrive in this same community. As a member of the Bountiful Rotary club, we were looking for ways to serve and 20 years ago we saw a need. That need was warm winter clothing for children. So the “Coats for Kids” car show was started. As Chairman, I collaborated with city officials who wholeheartedly got on board. Because of the enormous generosity of this community and sponsors, over 9,000 children in the 16 So. Davis elementary schools have received warm winter clothing over these 20 years. I applaud this community for its generous service and would be honored to be your voice and represent you on the
Bountiful City Council.

HOW DO WE MAINTAIN THE QUALITY OF LIFE IN BOUNTIFUL AT THE LOWEST POSSIBLE COST TO OUR CITIZENS? MY THOUGHTS ARE BELOW:
SAFETY
Support and maintain a first class Police and Fire Department. Our children need a city where they can play in open spaces, ride bikes on safe streets, and just be kids.
TAXES
Keep taxes, utilities, operating costs low without adversely impacting the quality of services rendered.
SERVICES
Upgrade infrastructure re: clean water, reliable power, garbage disposal with recycling of green waste, maintain and improve roads with their underlying power, water, electric and sewer lines.
WINTER MAINTENANCE
Well plowed and salted streets during winter months.
PROPERTY RIGHTS
Protect individual property rights and single family residents from over reach by developers and government. We should have more say than the city concerning your own property.
NEW REVENUE
Find new sources of revenue by reaching out to owners & entrepreneurs to come and open their businesses in Bountiful along with finding incentives for existing businesses to expand.
CITIZEN INVOLVEMENT
An open door policy in the city for citizens, department heads and city employees to express their concerns in a civil and constructive manner.
Increase opportunities for citizen involvement on special select committees appointed by the mayor and city council. i.e: Plat A, dog park, pickle ball courts, hiking trails, Veterans Memorial, etc.
COMMUNICATION
Explore ways to improve the communication between the city and its residents for a more informed and involved citizenry.
TECHNOLOGY
Using the latest technology to increase citizen awareness and involvement in local government. i.e: live streaming of city meetings.
HISTORIC MAIN STREET
Plat A
Thank you to the Clipper for running my Editorial on Plat A:
Historic Bountiful needs to be preserved!
Dear Editor:
It is unfortunate that Stoker School had to be torn down. The school was an important part of our historic down town area.
Our elected officials must be sensitive to the desires of the people living in this unique area as well as all citizens. The wonderful businesses, single family homes and the existing atmosphere around theTabernacle should be preserved as development of Plat A moves forward.
A plaza in Plat A where Stoker was with an open park where families can gather for community and cultural events like Bountiful Rotary’s “Coats for Kids” car show, should be considered. Including a Veteran’s memorial to honor those who gave so much in selfless service to this great country.
It is imperative that we preserve this legacy of our historic downtown from further erosion. So I discourage the idea of high density apartments or other business developments that will distract from the home town feel of our Beautiful main street.

BOUNTIFUL ROTARY

DRIVEN TO SERVE CHILDREN
Children have always been a part of my professional life. As a practicing Pediatric Dentist for over 40 years, I have learned that children are influenced by many things outside of the home that help shape and develop their character. Children need a city where they can be children, play in open spaces, ride bikes on safe streets, swing in clean parks, and just be kids! This is Bountiful! I want to keep it that way! If you agree, vote for me!

DRIVEN TO SERVE FAMILY
Family is very important to me. My wife, Karen, and I grew up in small towns. There was a feeling of pride to be a part of a close-knit community. Neighbors cared for neighbors. We found the same feeling here, that is why we raised our six children (and many chickens) in Bountiful. We went to many games, music recitals, cheer competitions, etc. Five of our children are now living in Bountiful with ten (soon to be eleven) grandchildren. Karen and I have visited a number of states and cities in this great country, and there is no other place we would live. Bountiful is a small piece of Heaven and I want it to stay that way! If you agree, vote for me!

DRIVEN TO SERVE BOUNTIFUL
Bountiful is a bedroom community with little room for future development. We are very fortunate for city founders who looked down the road and gave us Bountiful Power, Weber Basin Water, and a land fill that recycles. We have clean streets, numerous parks, open spaces, clean drinking water and Police and Fire Departments second to none.
Cities need a revenue stream, other than raising taxes, to remain financially strong. While maintaining community values, we will need to be open to new ideas like using technology to increase efficiency and support a strong city workforce. Bountiful is a great city with a bright future! If you agree, vote for me!

BIOGRAPHY
A life of service
I was born and raised in Brigham City Utah at the end of World War II. It was a wonderful place to be a kid.
I played a lot of tennis and ended up teaching tennis lessons for the City. I worked at the famous Maddox restaurant bussing tables, Skaggs bagging groceries and hauling hay for neighboring farms. I also worked for my Dad's jewelry store on Brigham City's Historic Main Street.
I attended Utah State University and was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. I served as the business manager of the annual year book and graduated with a B.S. degree in Speech Pathology.
I was accepted in to dental school at Marquette University in Milwaukee Wisconsin. (I am a great Green Bay Packers fan to this day.) While in dental school I met Karen Brinkerhoff from Lovell Wyoming, she was staying with family. I won her heart and we were married in 1966 in the Logan LDS Temple.
After completing dental school, I joined the United States Army during the Vietnam War as a Captain in the Dental Core. There I received the "Desert Rat Award" for outstanding service. After completing my service in the Army I was accepted as a Pediatric dental resident at Milwaukee Children's Hospital.
When it came time to plant our family roots and start my dental practice we moved to Utah and in 1973 I opened my Pediatric Dental practice in Salt Lake City. We lived in Salt Lake City until 1977. When one day our dear friends Dr. Grant and Geniel Christian, who lived in Bountiful, told Karen and I "The best place to live and raise a family is Bountiful".
So, we found a home on Millcrest Circle and moved to Bountiful.
In 1980, I moved my Pediatric dental practice to Bountiful and became the first Pediatric dentist north of Salt Lake City. My practice now resides at 535 E 500 S.
I have served professionally as a board member of the Utah Dental Association. As President of the South Davis District Dental Association, Chaired the UDA annual Convention, and Chaired the Pediatric Dental section of the American Academy of Pediatrics. I am a member of the Board of Directors of the Professional Insurance Exchange and presently serve as secretary.
I have lectured at the American Dental Associations' annual meetings and written articles in Professional magazines. I also received the "Life Time Service Award" from the Utah Dental Association which was an honor for me.
Karen and I are members of Rotary International and I have served as the President of the Bountiful Rotary Club. I started the "Coats for Kids" car show 19 years ago and I have watched it grow in to one of Bountiful City's premier charity events. I am humbled by the outpouring of love and donations this event has received over the years.
I served as Rotary District Governor for the State of Utah in 2002-2003. Karen and I have served in other service projects in Utah and around the world. The amount of joy received from helping others is immeasurable.
Karen and I raised our six children in Bountiful where they participated in many great activities. Five of our six children call Bountiful home. We have ten grandchildren (soon to be 11) that enjoy growing up in this town.
We love backyard chickens, vegetable and flower gardening and time with our family.

WHY VOTE FOR CHRIS SIMONSEN?
As a young man growing up my parents taught me the importance of serving others and maintaining high ethical standards throughout my life. Ever since that time I have been driven to serve others. In my professional life as a Pediatric Dentist serving children, serving on the Boards of the Utah Dental Association and Professional Insurance Exchange, in my church callings and family life. I was also honored to served our country in the United States Army.
In our community, I started “Coats for Kids” car show 19 years ago as a member of the Bountiful Rotary Club. It has grown in to one of the premier events in our city serving over 9000 children with warm winter coats, mittens and boots. I was Chair of the Bountiful Veteran's Memorial Site Selection Committee. I have been a Republican precinct chair as well as a State and County delegate. In 2002, I was named “Bountiful City Father of the Year”. I am committed to maintaining strong family values which will give our children the very best opportunity to succeed and reach their full potential.
In 1976 Karen & I chose to live and run a pediatric dental practice in Bountiful. We raised 6 wonderful children here and now watch 11 grandchildren grow up in this same community. We love living and working in Bountiful. I have become aware of some challenges facing our community and as a City Council member I will have an open mind to the public and City employees on how to best deal with these challenges. This would be an opportunity for me to apply the principles of leadership and use the experiences and skills I have gained from over 40 years in business and as a husband and father to move the city into the future. With no hidden agendas my purpose in running for City Council is to keep Bountiful a wonderful place to live, raise a family and retire.
I ask for your vote.
